Unione Musicale, based in Turin, is a non-profit institution and leading music event organiser, established in 1946 by Giorgio Balmas. In just over seventy years, it has organised thousands of concerts, covering the full repertoire of classical music, but with a special focus on chamber music. A non-stop stream of music that has brought worldclass performers to the city’s concert halls—from Ashkenazy to Zimerman, a star-studded line-up of soloists, ensembles, and orchestras have delighted audiences with memorable performances and acclaimed thematic events.
The Unione Musicale works regularly in partnership with the city’s music institutions, including the Teatro Regio, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, and the MITO Settembre Musica Festival. From 1984 to 2012, it coordinated the annual Piemonte in Musica festival, an initiative sponsored by Regione Piemonte to bring classical music to local concert halls throughout the region. Alongside its traditional concert seasons, since 2010 the Unione Musicale has organised a special programme of shows and concerts for children and schools at the Teatro Vittoria in Turin, to shape a new generation of music lovers.
In recent years, growing focus has also been placed on innovative and experimental activities, including formulas and programmes to reach out to new audiences, children, and their families. Unione Musicale is a founding member of Sistema Musica, an association bringing together the city’s major music institutions. The association’s website (www.sistemamusica.it) was managed by Unione Musicale until 2019.
